The Bayelsa State Ministry of Transport has noticed with dismay that some operators of Mini-buses and Tricycles have formed the habit of diverting passengers from the state owned Ultra-Modern Transport Terminal at Igbogene to Mbiama and other locations in defiance of government directive.
This behaviour is inimical to progress, and constitutes a direct sabotage of the Prosperity Government’s ongoing reforms aimed at sanitizing the transport sector. The Ministry of Transport therefore wishes to reaffirm that all existing routes as earlier earmarked for transporters still remain in force.
For the avoidance of doubt, all Mini-Buses and Tricycle operators are required to terminate their routes at the Ultra-Modern Terminal at Igbogene, while those going beyond Igbogene must originate from within the allotted spaces in the Terminal.
The Ministry also wishes to reiterate the need for Mini-Buses and Tricycle Operators to paint their vehicles to the State colours, obtain and boldly display their MOT numbers.
Furthermore, those loading passengers after the bridge on Tombia/Amassoma Road are to desist forthwith in their own interest or face sanctions. Government recognized parks remain Igbogene Ultra-Modern Terminal and Ekeki Park. Operators of any other park(s) will be prosecuted for violation of Bayelsa State Government policies.
Transporters should note that offenders would be arrested and made to pay a fine of ₦100,000.00 for:
1. Conveying passengers or goods beyond Igbogene Junction.
2. Picking up passengers outside the Terminal.
3. Parking outside the Terminal.
4. Loading passengers after the bridge on Tombia/Amassoma Road.
5. Fighting within the Terminal premises.
Remember, government policies are in our collective interests. “Let’s work together to achieve better safety and efficiency on our roads”.
Signed:
Ayebaekipreye Brodrick
Honourable Commissioner for Transport
Bayelsa State
