Functions of The Vehicle Inspection Office

Vehicle Inspection and Roadworthiness:

VIOs are responsible for inspecting vehicles to ensure they are safe and roadworthy before they can be used on public roads. They check for mechanical and safety defects, ensuring compliance with established standards. This includes inspecting brakes, lights, tires, and other essential components.

Driver’s License Testing:

VIOs conduct both theoretical and practical tests for individuals applying for driver’s licenses. They assess the applicant’s knowledge of traffic rules and their ability to operate a vehicle safely. They also test and issue rider’s cards for motorcyclists.

Accident Investigation:

VIOs play a role in investigating accidents to determine the causes and contributing factors. This information helps in identifying areas for improvement in road safety and vehicle maintenance.

Public Enlightenment:

VIOs organize seminars and public lectures to educate drivers and the public on traffic rules, road safety, and vehicle maintenance. This is aimed at promoting responsible driving behavior and reducing accidents.

 Certification of Driving Schools:

VIOs certify driving schools, ensuring they meet the required standards for training drivers. This helps maintain a consistent level of quality in driver training programs.
